Club Sections

We are a friendly members club, where you can enjoy either social or competitive golf, and also the friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse.

As I begin my year as Captain of Chipping Sodbury Golf Club, I would like to extend to you a very warm welcome. We are extremely proud of the way our club is maintained and presented to our members and guests alike.

I was born in the City of St Andrews in Scotland, the historic home of the game we love. However, Chipping Sodbury Golf Club is now very much my personal home of golf.

The golf club has been a large part of my life from as far back as 1979 and even during my absence from the game it was always going to play a major role in my life in the future. I have met many people who have become great friends and that is only down to the way Chipping Sodbury Golf Club is run. We are a unique club that makes everyone welcome. We are respected around the county both for the friendly atmosphere and also Chipping Sodbury Golf Course itself.

The course provides a good test of your golfing abilities, a challenge of golf throughout the year for players of all standards. We have a varied programme of events ranging from Medals and Stablefords to fun competitions like Texas Scrambles. We organise away days and exchange days throughout the year giving a wide variety of friendly events. Each section has a lively set of golfers keen to play and enjoy themselves. For the more serious players we have three representative teams which compete in the Bristol & District Golf League. We encourage members to join in and represent the Club at all levels.

An extensive and varied programme of social events is organised throughout the year, with the aim that there should be something to appeal to everyone, whatever their taste in entertainment. These events are aimed not only at the members, but their partners as well, so they too can enjoy being part of club life.

I take this opportunity to wish everyone an enjoyable year. To our team members I wish them every success in all their matches and I look forward to meeting you all at some point during the year either on the course or at one of our many social events.

As Lady Captain 2018, I am proud to be able to welcome you to our warm and friendly Ladies’ Section. We have around 50 – 60 playing members, of all standards, together with a valued group of ex-players who meet for lunch every week.

We actively welcome new members of all levels of experience, holding a taster open day including free coaching for beginners, and group lessons aimed at improvers. For those perhaps looking to return to golf or moving from another club, our ladies are most welcoming, with a “golf buddy” easing the way and ensuring everyone feels included.

We have regular competitions on Tuesdays and Sundays covering a wide range of golf formats. Some are seriously competitive, for example our 36 hole championship, but others, like our winter texas scramble, are just a bit of fun. There is something for everyone, including those who prefer to play 9 holes; the ladies have a roll up session every Thursday when coffee and a chat is as important as the golf.

Everyone is welcome to play in our friendly matches – we have 12 in the season and we also run a league team in the Bristol and District Alliance for our lower handicap players. All the ladies are invited to our annual away day and the 3 day golf break so there are plenty of chances to sample other courses in friendly company.

It is a pleasure, as Chipping Sodbury GC Seniors’ Captain 2018, to introduce you to its Seniors’ Section and to extend an invitation to come along and take a look at what we have to offer. Whether you are already an established golfer or just wanting to take up golf, you are assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

Our Seniors’ Section, with just short of 200 members, is an active part of the larger golf club and offers a variety of social and competitive golf to suit all tastes for those who are 55 years and over.

Monday morning roll-ups offer the opportunity for new and existing members to meet and play; there are mixed golf events with our ladies section to enjoy and several evening dinners during the year that provide an opportunity to mix and socialise.

Whatever form of golf you enjoy, be it internal competitive golf, interclub friendly matches, or simply a social round with friends, you will find it all on offer at Chipping Sodbury GC.

So why not come and meet us and let us tell you more.

Chipping Sodbury Golf Club is proud to boast a vibrant junior section, run by a group of volunteers, led by junior organiser Jon Thompson.

We have a wide range of junior golfers, ranging from beginners to Category 1 County players. All juniors are encouraged to meet throughout the summer months on a Tuesday evening, where different 9 hole competitions are organised for them. This has proved to be very successful, bringing the whole section together, and although competitive, it is always played in a friendly atmosphere.

Friday night is tuition night, where discounted group tuition is available to all juniors with our Junior Coach, ex European Tour player, David Ray.

Chipping Sodbury Golf Club also enters a junior team into The Bristol & District Junior Golf League. This gives our juniors the opportunity to play match play against other local golf clubs, and of course, the opportunity to play other courses.

The match is followed by a meal where both teams sit together and relive their individual experiences. In 2014, Chipping Sodbury Golf Club achieved a unique treble, winning the league, cup and the inter-league cup. No other club has ever achieved this.

N.B. – To comply with all relevant Child Protection regulations, Jon holds a valid PGA Level 1 coaching certificate, which includes DBS, child protection and duty of care. All other volunteers and staff hold a valid DBS certificate.
